Former Bengals and Texas Receiver Jordan Shipley Severely Injured in Ranch Accident
Former Texas star and NFL receiver Jordan Shipley is receiving treatment after sustaining serious burns in an accident on his property near Burnet, Texas.
Details of the Accident
Per a release from his family, Shipley was operating a piece of machinery when it caught fire. The 40-year-old managed to escape, it was after he suffered major burn injuries over a significant portion of his body. He was able to get to one of his workers, who drove him to a local hospital. Subsequently, he was airlifted to Austin, where he remains in critical but stable condition.
“We ask for prayers for a complete recovery and no infections or other issues on his road to recovery,” posted his brother, Jaxon Shipley, on Instagram.
Severity of the Injuries
Reports indicate that Shipley suffered third-degree burns to more than 20% of his body. Family members have stated that the main danger at this stage is the threat of infection and pneumonia.
A Look Back at Jordan Shipley's Career
Shipley received All-American honors while at Texas in 2009. During his college career, he amassed 248 career catches for over 3,000 receiving yards and 33 scores. He also ran track for the university.
Selected in the third round of the 2010 draft by the Bengals, he played for Cincinnati, Jacksonville, and Tampa Bay over three seasons. He officially retired in 2014.
